Downey Folk Jam

The Downey Folk Music Jam was created in September, 2007 to bring  more folk music into this little corner of the world.  But Downeyites are not the only ones attracted to jamming.  We have regular players from the San Fernando Valley, central Orange County, and occasional visitors from various states in the country.  I’m waiting for our first international visitor!

This round-robin style jam welcomes acoustic instrument players and singers of all levels.  Although we call this a ‘folk jam,’ we tend to play anything from Celtic to traditional American, Old-Time to country-western, and even more contemporary music.  Basically, we play just about anything.  Percussion instruments are available to borrow and visitors are welcome to sit around the outside of the circle and sing, clap or play rhythm instruments as appropriate. Children are welcome but children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult.

If you would like a sneak peek, we have been featured twice on the CNN Headline News, Local Edition of the Southern California News, Metro Division.  Both are narrated by Ron Roberson.  Thanks, Ron!
